From late September to early November, Wilhelm took part in a artist residency HARVEST project at Lavangsnes Wunderkammer, Sjovegan, Norway.
Accompanying in autumn activities at the Lavangsnes Wunderkammer farm, including the harvest of potatos, tendance of sheep, ponys, rabbits, chicken, and a goose. The participation in the daily activities layed the ground for the development of a theoretical and and artistict work.
Many things were harvested. One of it being clay from the shore of the fjord, marine clay, and from the field, which was then edited, washed, and mixed with various minerals and materials to try to improve its qualities for further use. Glazes were tested using the ash from local birches and the found clay.
This edited clay was then built into stone-lookalikes and shovels. Some of them were just bisquefired, some glazed, and some put in a pit fire, that was built on the field, where the ceramics were fired in a 9-hour fire, with two days cooling off.
The permanent sculpture staying at the Lavangsnes Wunderkammer Skulpturepark is the pit-fire and a fixed ceramic shovel next to it. All of the stone imitations were put back in the pit. Intended for future use, it’s reoccuring cycle of clay harvest, selection, and assembling.
The residency culminated in a two-day exhibition at the old school of Lavangsnes showing the results of the clay testing, pit fire, glaze testing, and the outdoor sketches which were made during the whole of the stay.
All of the outdoor sketches made can be found: outdoor sketches norway.
